ABOUT

My name is Abbey McLaughlin,

I am the founder and owner of Mal’s Milky Way LLC. MMW is a private lactation counseling practice where we provide personal lactation support along with prenatal education classes. I have a passion for helping others, giving parents and their children the education and tools to meet their goals as a family, while setting them up for health and success. I am an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, and I am a Registered Nurse with neonatal intensive care unit experience.

My journey with my daughter Mallory inspired my business.

I had a traumatic pregnancy, labor and delivery, which ultimately led to a traumatic start to our lactation journey. I struggled with overwhelming pressure from myself and my care team to provide breastmilk for my daughter, however was not provided anywhere near the support I needed to continue. I grew to resent feeding my daughter and could not get her to gain weight. I received mixed advice from the hospital lactation team, her pediatrician, and my obstetrician. I did not know what to do or who to listen to. I finally started listening to my body and my daughter, and it was only then that we both THRIVED.

I’m proud and so thankful to be able to say I successfully wrote a new story for myself and my second daughter! With Margaret, of course, there were pieces of our journey that were out of our control, but we were able to create such a peaceful and beautiful breastfeeding experience together. I share this to say it is possible to change your story too, and I’d be honored to help.

Meet the rest of the MMW team:

Hey there, I’m Lexi!

I am a certified lactation counselor, a wife, a mother of 3, and a fitness coach! I have many passions, but have found my calling helping other moms with their breastfeeding journeys. I became certified after many friends and family came to me naturally for breastfeeding guidance and I wanted to be able to provide evidence-based care to fully support them.

My own breastfeeding journey started when I became pregnant with my son during college at the age of 21. I knew I wanted to “try” breastfeeding at the time for the financial benefits, but little did I know at the time how my own journey would have such a huge impact on my life! I was young, but my nursing journey was pretty instinctual and I was lucky that my son nursed with ease. I went on to nurse my firstborn and my other two children for just over two years each & I’m so proud of that! Nursing my babies has been one of my favorite parts of motherhood and I want to be able to help guide that experience for others. I’m very thankful that my journey was seamless and I am driven to help other mothers have a peaceful experience too!

Hi I’m Emalie!

I am a stay at home mom and wife. My interest in breastfeeding started when I became pregnant with my son. I did a lot of reading, researching, took some classes before he was born, and found Abbey! Thankfully my nursing experience has gone mostly to plan. It has been such an amazing experience and I hope to continue for as long as we can!

I have been going to Weight Wednesdays since my son was born! It has been such a fun way to get out of the house, meet new moms, and get all the support I need. I’m excited to help others on their journey and be there to chat about anything and everything mom & breastfeeding!
